Born in Como on August 4th, 1960. Graduated with honours at the Politecnico di Milano (1984). Doctoral degree in Applied Mechanics (1989). Appointed as Full Professor at TU Delft (2000). Full professor at Politecnico di Milano (2004).
The scientific activity has focused on the design, construction, and test of machines, structures, and mechanical systems, with particular reference to ground vehicles.

Author of five books and of about 200 papers on International Journals.
Founder at the Politecnico di Milano of the Laboratory for Safety of Transport systems (LaST), of the Lab “Lightweight Construction of Durability Performance” (LiDuP), of the Lab “Driving Simulator” (DriSMi).
President of the XIX IAVSD Symposium (Milan, Aug 2005).
Secretary General of the Mobility Cluster of Lombardy (advising the Government of Lombardy Region).
Coordinator of the Scientific Board of the National Mobility Cluster of Italy (advising the Italian National Government)
Member of the EAG of the FIA.
