Andrea Ferrari was born in Rome in 1963. He was graduated with a degree in Political Science from the University of Rome and entered the foreign service in 1990, with an initial assignment to the Legal Affairs Bureau, Treaty Law Division, and subsequently to the Press and Information Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
An initial posting to Kuala Lumpur in 1992, where he headed the Trade Office of the Embassy, was followed by assignment to Budapest in 1996.
He returned to Rome in 2000, serving in the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs until 2004, when he was posted to Beijing as First Commercial Counsellor.
In 2008 he was named Ambassador of Italy to Qatar.
He returned to the Ministry in 2012, to the Directorate General for the Promotion of the Sistema Paese and later to Office of the Minister, where he served as Deputy Chief of Staff.
In 2014 he became Deputy Director General of Political Affairs and Security, and Central Director for the United Nations and Human Rights.
In 2016 he was named Italian Ambassador to Cuba.
As of May 3, 2021 he is Ambassador of Italy to Canada.
Ambassador Ferrari is married to Maria Grazia Mattarella; they have one daughter.
