9th June, 2020

Dear Members and Partners,

The coronavirus pandemic has completely changed the state of the global economy and of trade between Canada and the world. The ICCC is here to help you get through this difficult period, by supporting you and your international business strategies.

Complete reopening: Italy’s signal to the world

Driven by increasingly pressing economic demands, Italy has given the green light to free movement between regions and has opened its borders to European tourism. Discussions are underway for the total reopening of airports, which currently only accept certain flights from Europe. There is also the gradual increasing of the number of trains in circulation. During this 3rd phase, Italians must wear masks in public, body temperature checks are performed on all forms of public transport and people must quarantine themselves as soon as they experience any symptoms of the virus such as difficulty breathing. Large gatherings of people are still prohibited at this time as well. For more information, click here.

Restaurants are being allowed to reopen in Greater Montreal, the Joliette region and the city of L’Épiphanie on June 22 — and on June 15 in the rest of the province — the Quebec government announced Monday. Bars will remain closed for now unless they also serve food. Click here.

This working group of renowned experts who were mandated by the Italian Prime Minister to draw up a recovery plan have identified six priority areas of intervention which should be subject to targeted projects each with different funding methods. These areas of intervention include; companies and work; infrastructure and environment; tourism, art and culture; public administration; education and research, and citizens and families. This plan was developed with three objectives for all the sectors mentioned, digitalization and innovation, decarbonization of the economy, and gender equity and inclusion.
