After forty years of professional experience, initially in the aerospace sector and later in the management of a Testing, Inspection, and Certification (\u201cTIC\u201d) organization, Ing. Rodolfo Trippodo wondered what he could do to help the economy face the then fourth industrial revolution, given it would impact business processes, particularly in the TIC sector. In 2013, he founded Italian Quality Company s.r.l. (\u201cIQC\u201d) with other colleagues who had significant experience in quality management systems and product quality. Since its inception IQC continues to initiate research and innovation activities to support its clients, particularly manufacturing SMEs, regarding: \u2013 the analysis and improvement of business processes to ensure readiness for internal and external digital interconnections, clients\/suppliers, in line with Industry 4.0 and now Industry 5.0, and \u2013 the integration of products and activities carried out by companies with a service element to them (in what is now commonly referred to as the \u201cservitization\u201d of manufacturing).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
IQC has also seized the opportunity to assist the Public Sector in digitalizing some processes reducing paper consumption and time spent in meetings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To provide these services, IQC s.r.l. has adopted a dynamic and flexible company structure, amongst the most avant-garde in Italy, that allows for the integration of other business services with specific capabilities to meet its clients\u2019 requirements. The agreement reached with Giuseppe Adduce to create POMIAGER s.r.l., a software company specialized in advanced IT technologies to support processes, is testament to this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The success of IQC is due to its ability to research, develop and market innovative digital products and solutions and render them simple, and easy-to-use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Upon reflection, the economy is, in essence, based on defined rules and a system that ensures compliance to these rules. This is true in all contexts, from financial to production sectors, and in client\/supplier and producer\/consumer relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To ensure compliance with the rules, there is the International Quality System which is a powerful international structure of controls and certifications. These controls and certifications, however, rely on statements from the inspected companies and the inspectors who conduct the checks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
IQC reasoned that given that processes and product information and data are generated continuously, the information used as a reference in business management processes, supplier qualification activities, inspections, and certification is already available in digital formats and so it is merely a matter of organizing, cataloguing, and summarizing it to facilitate understanding, communication, and control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Data and information accompany everything: a component, a product, the professionalism of a technician, or a person in general. The establishment of a climate of trust is based on this data and information, facilitating the exchange of goods, services, and professionalism. The characteristics that govern good relations in the public and private sectors are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2013 AUTHENTICITY certainty of the identity to which the information refers,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2013 IMMUTABILITY once shared, data and information must not be altered, hence the still widespread use of paper, signatures, and stamps,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2013 TRACEABILITY a timeline of who and what has been modified\/implemented,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2013 CONFIDENTIALITY information remains confined to those involved, and no one else can gain access to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At this point, the question becomes: do innovative digital technologies, if correctly employed, provide these guarantees?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
