Abruzzo Wine Resto Week

  • November 21 - 27
  • 00H00

In recent decades, Abruzzo viticulture has made significant progress in terms of quality growth. Thanks to the constant and omnipresent work of development of the territory and its indigenous vineyards carried out by a new generation of producers, its wines receive continuous recognition both in Italy and abroad, registering an increasingly keen interest from the markets.

Quebec customers will be able to taste the region’s wines with the “Abruzzo Wine Resto Week“, an initiative proposed by the Consorzio Tutela Vini D’Abruzzo to promote the brand and increase awareness of Abruzzo wines among Quebec consumers.

From November 21 to 27, 2022, 15 selected restaurants across Quebec will offer their customers to a selection of Abruzzo wines from different producers, including Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC, an appellation considered for several years as one of the great red grape varieties of Italy.

The wines of Abruzzo are also part of The Charming Taste of Europe campaign, a unique project that connects the flavors of wine from Italy and France, as well as fresh fruit from Greece, and introduces the United States and Canada to these exquisite items that evoke all of Europe’s beauty and grace. The campaign is co-funded by the European Union and aims to promote the merits of European agricultural products, such as quality, tradition, traceability, safety and high production standards. Quality is one of the greatest assets of the producers across the EU in their attempt to meet the consumer demand, to increase the competitiveness of the EU products on US and Canada markets.

CONSORZIO TUTELA VINI D’ABRUZZO

The Consorzio Tutela Vini d’Abruzzo (Consortium for the Protection of Abruzzo Wines) is a non-profit association, composed of all the entities that are part of the control system, which aims to protect, enhance and take care of the interests relating to the controlled designations of origin of the regional territory. It currently associates about 200 wine houses.

The territory of Abruzzo, naturally predisposed to viticulture, is located between the Adriatic Sea and the Gran Sasso and Majella massifs. Today, the production of DOC wines includes 33,000 hectares of vines and 3.4 million hectoliters, including 800,000 hectoliters of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Montepulciano, one of the most widespread grape varieties grown on about 17,000 hectares.

Next comes Trebbiano, covering more than 10,000 hectares, as well as various indigenous grape varieties, including Pecorino, Passerina, Cococciola and Montonico, all notable for their growing popularity in the market.
